Next stop - Training at HQ

It will be a couple of weeks before I start my training for the Special Constabulary but I am slowly going through some of the Acts of Parliament which I may be using more than others, like the Public Order Act & Theft. I have also memorised the Caution and the Phoentic Alphabet.

I will keep this blog updated on my progress throughout training but I wont go into too much detail for security/data protection reasons but also for any of you who are going to or in the process of applying, I wouldnt want to spoil it for you!.

01.11.05 - I've been accepted

Received a call from Recruitment today to inform me that my security and references are now completed and that should now look forward to my training in two weeks time.

That's it, Ive been accepted!

Cant wait to start the training, learning about the Police Service, working within the community and alongside others who have the same interest.

25.10.05 - Awaiting completion of the security checks

Called Recruitment today as I havent heard anything for a while. I was informed that the security check are ongoing but the references have been received.

The lady in Recruitment asked if I would like a call when its all completed and I said 'yes', so I am waiting for the call. I hope it goes through ok as I only have 3 weeks until my Induction Training in November, pending the results of the security checks!

13.09.05 - The Medical

Booked half a day off work today to go have the medical at Police HQ. I was there for approximately 2 hours. First saw the nurse who went through standard checks for eyesight, breathing and hearing, then I saw the doctor who went through previous medical history and reflex checks.

Once he had finished the examination he confirmed to me that he saw no reason why I should fail the medical, he congratulated me and signed for approval.

Thats pretty much it now and all I am waiting for is the security and reference checks.

01.09.05 - The Interview

Went to work today but all I could think about was the interview. The interview itself wasnt until 8:45pm so I had time to go home after work and chill out, which didnt really happen!

Had a shower, got ready and headed off nice and early to Police HQ. Got there about 40 minutes early and read through my compentency answers while sitting in my car, once I had gone over these a few times I thought I may as well go into the block where my interview was being held.

One interviewee was waiting, so I struck up conversation with him to relax the nerves and then shortly after another turned up. Also started speaking to her about what we may expect and about life in general.

One of the Specials who was helping out that night came over to us speaking briefly about the interview and the Specials in general which made me more relaxed than I was before I walked through the door.

We were the last 3 to be interviewed, there were 6 interviewee's before us and was informed that all of them had passed, so no pressure then!. We were also told that we will know if we are successful or not that night.

I was called up, entered the room and sat in front of my interviewers. Almost an hour later I walked out of the room relaxed as the interview itself was good. The interviewers made me feel relaxed as soon as I walked in the room which helped a great deal.

5 minutes later I was asked to go back into the room and they told me I had passed. I never felt happier!, I thanked them for seeing me at such at a late hour as it was almost 10pm.

I was given a letter confirming the interview was successful along with the dates for my Induction Training. I had to select a date/time for my medical, so done this and headed off home.

The worst of the process is over now with just the medical and security/references checks to be done.

19.08.05 - P.I.R.T Results

Came back from work today to find a letter from the Police, the result .... Ive PASSED! .. Ever since the test itself there was a massive weight on my shoulders and reading this letter that weight totally went. I was relieved to say the least.

The letter also contained the date for my interview, 1st September 2005.

10.08.05 - The day of the P.I.R.T

Turned up at Police HQ 30 minutes early and waited outside for the examiners. Had a short greeting and went indoors. There were only 7 of us at the P.I.R.T with the 8th person not turning up.

The test lasted about 90 mins with small breaks inbetween but still sitting at the desks as the examiner explained what we had to do for each test before we proceeded onto that particular one. Before I knew it the test was over.

Now the wait begins to hear if I am successful. We were informed that we should receive confirmation within a couple of weeks.

15.07.05 - Application approved

I picked up the post this morning to find a letter from the Police. The nerves then kicked in as this would either be confirmation that I had passed or the start of a 6 month wait to reapply!

I opened the letter to see the words 'successful'!. The letter then went onto inform me of my P.I.R.T (Police Intial Recruitment Test) date on the 10th August 2005.

I had already been studying maths, verbal reasoning and logical reasoning for the test, so was kind of prepared for it.

Lets see how I go in the test itself!

27.06.05 - Application sent for the Special Constabulary

Today I sent off my application for the Special Constabulary which I got from the open evening I attended a week or so ago. I had 14 days in which to return the application but I had sent it well in advance of the deadline.

There were two parts to the application form with one being the standard questions regarding your name, address, current employment, family and references, and the other being the competency questions. These questions are the most important as you can fail the application if the answer you provide is not to the compentencies they are looking for.

I spent the better part of a week, typing out in draft, retyping, reading, retyping, letting my partner read it then retyping until I was comfortable with what I had put down.

With this completed I sent the form off. Now the waiting begins .. will I pass or not? .. time will tell.

The start of the application process

Welcome to my site about my application and hopefully my experiences being a Special Constable.

I would like to start by saying that I am NOT a Special Constable, I am only going through the application process.

I hope this is of interest of you. Certain posts have been restricted with regards to leaving comments as I dont feel that they would be worthy of such and also the posts are open to 'spam' comments, which can be annoying!
